Local Area

There is lots to see and do in the Auvergne if you would like to venture outside of the campsite.

Lakes & Rivers

We have a small river on site which is great for paddling and river walks and even dam building!

If you would like to cool off and have a swim, there are lakes at Champagnac-le Vieux ( 10 minute drive) and La Chaise Dieu ( 25 minutes) which have allocated swimming areas and a lifeguard during the summer.

Canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting and fishing are all also available on the Allier River. Or alternatively, take the Allier Gorges Train, one of France's best known tourist trains along the gorge, where there are no other means of transport, passing through 53 tunnels up step slopes and along high ridges. A fantastic way to see the gorges with spectacular views.

Towns & Villages

There are many beautiful towns and villages to visit in the area - below are just some of our favourites.
The main towns of Clermont Ferrand and Le Puy en Velay are an hours drive away and have many shops as well as beautiful sites to visit.

Clermont Ferrand

The regional capital of the Auvergne. There are a number of larger shops as well as quaint pedestrian streets, lined with antique shops and art galleries. Many people visit the Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO world heritage site in old Clermont Ferrand, a stunning masterpiece of Romanesque architecture.

Le Puy en Velay

A lovely town and is 40 mins drive. It has lovely buildings with 15th century architecture, quaint shops and streets and a Saturday market. There is also a selection of larger shops with retail parks and a Champion hypermarket.

"Les plus beaux villages" (the most beautiful villages of France) nearby include Lavadieu, Blesle and Usson. These are quaint villages with character, which have been blessed with this title and are a pleasure to visit.

Brioude

A 30 mins drive and is famous for its beautiful abbey dating from 1043 AD. There are a variety of antique shops, cafes and restaurants. The world renowned classical music festival takes place in August.

La Chaise Dieu

One of the favourite towns to visit in the Auvergne. The location is beautiful, as you enter the town you cannot miss the statue of Notre Dame de France perched on a rock, over looking the town below. You can visit the Notre Dame cathedral, a world heritage site. The town is also famous for its Puy Lentils, which have achieved AOC status, which can be found in many of the delightful shops in the town. Le Puy en Velay is an hour away by car and is well worth a visit, just to see the views of the city, the shopping is fabulous and don't forget your Puy lentils, famous all over the world.

Issoire

Our closest town and is 30 mins drive. It is situated on the River Allier and is the town which marks the beginning of the Allier Gorges. There is a supermarket and many charming shops which sell local produce, lots of cafes and restaurants. It is also a great place to visit with is Romanesque Basilica of Saint Julien, the oldest in the Auvergne, Salmon and River House and Lace Museum. On Saturday, there is a lively morning market where you can buy fresh local honey, seasonal fruit and veg or even a goat or chicken!
